We would like to welcome you to Heinnie's Back Barn on the web!

Bill and Troy DeShone, are the 3rd generation of the DeShone family to continue the "Heinnie's Tradition!" For over 56 years, folks have been enjoying the great steaks, Heinnie's hamburgers and more at Heinnie's Back Barn.

Our Grandfather and Grandmother, Heinnie and Maxine, built "Heinnie's" at this very location in 1951! Heinnie had a bar built in downtown Elkhart by the railroad depot. The US Post Office bought his downtown property to build the existing Elkhart Post Office.
Heinnie chose the current Lusher Ave. location because it was so close to the railroad yard in Elkhart. He wanted to be able to offer a beer and a good sandwich to those railroad worker's that had supported him in the past.

In the late 60's Heinnie's youngest son, Harry, along with his wife Janet, became the second generation of DeShone's to own "Heinnie's". Over the years Harry and Janet added to the menu and remodeled the bar area. They also knocked out walls to add updated bathrooms and expand the bar's seating capacity. In 1985 Harry and Janet's two sons, Bill and Troy DeShone, joined the family business to help Harry pursue his dream of adding a barn theme restaurant able to serve entire familie's.
With long patience and perservarance they developed a menu that has earned a reputation that Heinnie himself would have demanded! "Heinnie's" has won the "Best Steak" and "Best Prime Rib" category in our voting area. Their "Heinnie Cheeseburger" was just recently added to the top cheeseburger stops in the United States by hamburger author and film writer George Motz! Harry sold to his son's in 1987 and built his second restaurant called "Maxi's" in 1989, and then his third restaurant called "Stacy's" in 1997! All three restaurant's continue to operate under the DeShone family! Since 1951, our family has enjoyed the pleasure of serving the Elkhart community! Please stop in at one of our locations and let us introduce you to the "Heinnie's tradition!"
